Why Dicarpet

The trusted online destination for Persian and Oriental rugs in Europe.

Choosing the right rug shapes a room, sets the tone, and quietly tells the story of the home it belongs to. Dicarpet has spent more than four decades helping homes across Europe find that piece — Persian, Oriental, Vintage, Berber, Kilim, modern hand-tufted designs and silk classics. We are one of the largest specialist retailers on the continent, with our own warehouse, our own studio and our own team of rug experts.

Every rug in our catalogue is hand-picked by our specialists in person, photographed under natural light in our studio, and described with the level of detail that only decades of experience produce. We don't dropship. We don't sell rugs we haven't held in our hands. The piece you see online is the piece that arrives at your door.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose the right rug size for my living room?
A common rule is that the front legs of every sofa and chair should sit on the rug, with at least 20 cm of rug visible around the seating area. For most living rooms, a 200 × 300 cm rug works beautifully. If your room is smaller, a 160 × 230 cm anchors the coffee table without overwhelming the space.
Are Persian rugs suitable for underfloor heating?
Yes — wool and silk Persian rugs are naturally compatible with radiant heating systems, provided the surface temperature stays below 27 °C. Wool insulates without trapping heat damage. We recommend avoiding rubber or latex underlay; instead, use a felt or natural-fibre pad.
Do you ship outside Europe?
We ship across the European Union with free, insured delivery. Most orders arrive within 3–7 working days. We also ship outside the EU for a flat rate, calculated at checkout.
How do I clean and care for a hand-knotted rug?
Vacuum gently and regularly using a suction-only setting. Rotate the rug every 6 months for even wear. For deep cleaning, a professional wash every 3–5 years is enough. Spills should be blotted (never rubbed) with cold water — never use bleach or harsh detergents on natural fibres.
What's the difference between hand-knotted, hand-tufted and machine-made rugs?
Hand-knotted rugs are tied knot by knot on a loom — the most durable and valuable, often lasting generations. Hand-tufted rugs are punched into a backing with a tool — affordable and beautiful, but with a shorter lifespan. Machine-made rugs are produced industrially — uniform, inexpensive, but without the character of hand-made pieces.
Can I see a rug in person before buying?
Yes. Our showroom is open by appointment, and we also offer a 30-day home trial: order online, live with the rug in your space, and return it for free if it isn't right.
